もちろん、この類の直接的なやりとりは戦略の一つであり、威圧しようとするときの常套手段である。特に新人や弱者とやるときは。
ほら、コナーズだってUSオープンで、ネットを周って対戦相手のCorrado Barazzuttiのサイドまで入ってきて、Barazzuttiがあっけに取られている前でボールの跡をわざと消し、アンパイアがオーバーコールできないようにしたことがあるじゃないか。

Hey — remember the time at the U.S. Open when Connors marched around the net post to Corrado Barazzutti’s side of the court and, with his stunned rival watching, intentionally scuffed out a mark so that the umpire couldn’t examine the mark and reverse a bad call?
